Heel Pain in your child

Is your child complaining of sore heels after sport? Is their foot pain preventing them from enjoying sport?

As we want to keep children active, it is important to have these problems assessed and not just dismiss them as growing pains.

One of the most common causes of heel and ankle pain is Sever’s disease, or traction calcaneal apophysitis. This problem usually involves an inflammation of the growth plate in the heel bone (calcaneus).

Sever’s is thought to be caused by growth, tight muscles, high activity levels and poor foot and gait posture. It is important to not just dismiss these pains as just growing pains as we do need to keep your child participating in sport, active and comfortable during their developmental years.

Our podiatrists at the Active Foot Clinic have a keen interest and additional training to recognise and effectively manage heel pain in your child.
